Meet author E.V. Sparrow
Jen – I’m so happy to have author E. V. Sparrow on my blog! Tell us about yourself.
E.V. – I was born and raised in the Foothills of California. Small town girl, but the town grew in the 70s after a feature in Sunset magazine. Ha! We hiked, played in creeks and ponds, rode horses or ponies, chased calves. We had 4H clubs in our agriculture classes in schools.
The most unusual place I lived at was on an Israeli kibbutz whose commerce was apples, chickens, eggs, cotton — I can see a rural theme in my life. My other terrific place was when I worked for the U.S. Army at a base in Bavaria. Gorgeous country. We skied, played racquetball, went on tours around the country, and my dream of visiting Neuschwanstein Castle came true. What increased my faith in God was when I accepted the Gospel of Jesus Christ at age 15 and began my relationship with Him. He’s always done the unexpected, and that’s my tagline for my work: Encounter God’s Unexpected Presence.
More about E. V. Sparrow
Jen – I love your tagline and am a bit envious of your travels! Tell us about what you’ve written.
E.V. – I began as a short story writer with my travel stories published in 16 anthologies. My critique group urged me to write a book. Reluctance to tackle a huge project held me back until I discovered some interesting material from my dad’s father’s family. That’s what I’m fictionalizing in my current historical fiction books.
My new release through Celebrate Lit Publishing, Muldoon’s Misfortunes, Book 1 of 3 in the Those Resilient Muldoons series, is slated for launch on 7/16.
I’m currently writing Book 2, Madam Muldoon’s Garden releasing next July. I also have a self-published prelude novella for readers, Muldoon’s Minnesota Darling.
Muldoon’s Misfortunes is on preorder as an eBook for $2.99 from my publisher and be sure to fill out the form to receive exclusive goodies from me!
Tell us about your writing habits E. V. Sparrow!
E.V. – I write best in the morning, but lately with my launch I’m scrambling to fit writing into my daily life. It seems to be in the afternoon and on weekends. I’ve got 9 chapters to finish in Book 2. I mentioned my ideas come from actual events or relationships. I end up plotting, outlining because it’s historical fiction and details must fit, and letting my characters drive the dialogue. That’s the most enjoyable for me as an author, when my characters add the flavor. Often, a character I hadn’t imagines steps in and demands to be included. Ha!
Jen – Did you have to do research for your story?
E.V. – Definitely. For my main character, Mick Muldoon, it was discovering some stunning court documents in Ancestry. Of course, I had to include it. Mick is the representative character of my great-grandfather. In my Author Notes, I explain this and also include the truth and fictional aspects of his story.
A short story writer turned novelist E. V. Sparrow signed a three-book contract with Celebrate Lit Publishing. She published a new HF eBook novella, Muldoon’s Minnesota Darling. She served on missions, worship team, prayer teams, Single’s Ministry, and in the Divorce Care program. Sparrow enjoys leading readers to Encounter God’s Unexpected Presence.
