Meet author Amy Anguish

I’m so excited to have Amy Anguish on my blog! She has a novella coming out today – A Match Made in Christmas! Let’s learn more about her and then look at this fun Christmas novella collection.

Jen – Hi, Amy! I’d love to know more about your background.

Amy – I’m from all over the South. My Daddy is a preacher and we moved around quite a bit, and then my husband and I moved several more times after we got married. So, I’ve lived in Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas. If people ask where I’m from, I usually claim Arkansas and Tennessee, though Oklahoma also falls on the list because it’s where my grandparents lived for over 60 years and felt like home to me too.

Amy R Anguish grew up a preacher’s kid, and in spite of having lived in seven different states that are all south of the Mason-Dixon line, she is not a football fan. Currently, she resides in Tennessee with her husband, daughter, and son, and usually a bossy cat or two. Amy has an English degree from Freed-Hardeman University that she intends to use to glorify God, and she wants her stories to show that while Christians face real struggles, it can still work out for good.

Jen – I know you’re a fellow Scrivenings Press author. What have you written?

Amy – I write Christian Romance where the characters long for ‘home,’ learn love isn’t just a feeling, and find out happily ever after doesn’t always come where expected. This will be my fifteenth publication, with two more scheduled for next year. All my books are on Amazon, as well as several other sites.

Jen – That’s exciting!! So, when do you write?

Amy – I tend to write in bursts. I’ve trained myself to write using Nanowrimo, which is always in November with a goal of writing at least 50k words in 30 days. I’ve won quite a few times, and while I don’t only write during November (and probably won’t write anything in November this year due to other events going on), it has trained me to love writing a whole story all at once. And I am a plantser—I mostly write by the seat of my pants, but also have a few scene ideas scribbled down so I don’t forget them.

Jen – I’ve attempted Nanowrimo, but never finished. It’s definitely challenging! What do you like to read in your downtime?

Amy – I love to read across quite a few genres—classics, contemporary romance, historical romance (especially Regency era and 1800s), and fantasy. I’ll dive into a mystery or nonfiction every now and then, but they’re not my go-tos. I think reading widely has made me a better author because I know what works well and what doesn’t. Plus, I have a great vocabulary from all those old books! 😉

Jen – I agree that reading helps with learning vocabulary. I’d like to know more about your platform: how can readers find you?

Amy – I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and have just joined Instagram after being prodded by several friends for years. I send out a newsletter once a month—twice only if something exciting is happening like a book release or freebie—and would love to have you subscribe. You can also find me on Bookbub and Goodreads.

Jen – I always like to ask for fun facts about authors!

Amy – I’m definitely a fan of hot tea and drink it all year long, at least one cup a day. I’m a big fan of fall, despite the allergies that come with it, though I have parts of every season I love. I have taken up gardening in the last six years and love to pick veggies or see butterflies working my flowers—not so much a fan of weeding. I also crochet and sew and paint every now and then.

One of the verses I’ve clung to most over the last year is Philippians 4:6-7. “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
