Book Review: Cake That! by Heather Greer
I love reality baking shows – do you? My daughter-in-law got me hooked on the British one. But even before that, I read Cake That! by Heather Greer, and I loved it! I can’t wait to tell you more about it.

Cake That! by Heather Greer

Ten bakers. Nine days. Only one winner.
Competing on the Cake That baking show is a dream come true for Livvy Miller, but debt on her cupcake truck and an expensive repair make her question if it’s one she should chase. Her best friend, Tabitha, encourages Livvy to trust God to care for The Sugar Cube, win or lose.
Family is everything to Evan Jones. His parents always gave up their dreams so their children could achieve theirs. Winning Cake That would let him give back some of what they’ve sacrificed by allowing him to give them the trip they’ve always talked about but could never afford.
As the contestants live and bake together, more than the competition heats up. Livvy and Evan have a spark from the start, but they’re in it to win. Neither needs the distraction of romance. Unwanted attention from Will, another competitor, complicates matters. Stir in strange occurrences to the daily baking assignments, and everyone wonders if a saboteur is in the mix.
With the distractions inside and outside the Cake That kitchen, will Livvy or Evan rise above the rest and claim the prize? Or does God have more in store for them than they first imagined?

My thoughts on Cake That!
I stayed up late to finish this book! Heather Greer has a way of making her characters so real. Main character and food truck owner, Livvy, is all polka dots and headbands, which makes her a great TV personality. Her BFF, Tabitha, keeps her grounded as well as surrounded in prayer.
When Livvy gets to the set of Cake That and meets the other contestants, drama abounds. Just like what we see on reality TV shows. Plus, there’s that spark between her and Evan that kept me reading, especially after he kisses her and then says he regrets it.

Ouch, Evan, that was a special thing for Livvy!
Okay, he earns some redemption later in the book, but I’m not spoiling that.
There are several themes that run through this book, but my favorite is the theme of forgiveness. That’s something that always needs to be talked about and shown, and Greer does a great job with it in the story.
Faith is a big part of this book, and it’s woven throughout the pages in a way that’s not preachy, just realistic in living life.
Cake That! was such a fun read – Faith-based, clean, and a fun look inside a reality TV show.
I give this book an N rating, as in Nothing to Worry About! Even your teens could read this!
