My favorite books
If I asked you what your favorite books are, would it take long to tell me? I have several, and they’re all over the board in genre.

Favorite books as a child
When I was little — I loved Artie and the Princess. It’s by Marjorie Torrey and is about a little dragon named Artie and his friend Princess Pandy. I still have my copy! I remember my mom would read to me while I took my bath. Amazon’s writeup describes it as “lavishly illustrated with delicate ink drawings and fine watercolor washes by the author.”
I loved Artie and Princess Pandy – they were my friends.
I’ve always loved to read, and the Bobbsey Twins books were a huge favorite when I was in elementary school. Some of my friends and I would act out being the twins – Bert/Nan and Freddie/Flossie. Great times!
What were your favorite books for detectives? I also like the Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew!
Teenage favorite books
The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton – Ponyboy was my teenage crush. I cried when Dally died. Recently, on a trip, my daughter and I listened to the audiobook; it just didn’t seem the same. Still, such a great book! It must have been my teenage angst that made it so amazing at that time.
Favorite books & authors as an adult
As an adult, my favorite books are still all over the place in genre. I’m a big fan of James Patterson – especially his Women’s Murder Club and his Michael Bennett series. I love anything written by Greg Iles and I even got a chance to meet him at a book signing for Cemetery Road!
I also read Tana French, Fiona Barton, Lisa Scottoline, and of course, Colleen Hoover!
In Christian fiction — I love Eva Marie Everson (highly recommend her novel, Dust), Melody Carlson, Heather Greer, Deborah Sprinkle, Francine Rivers, and Gilbert Morris!

Hi, I’m Jen! I’ve been married 37 years, have 5 amazing kids and 2 adorable grandkids and one on the way. I homeschooled our three youngest children. I used to blog about homeschooling and taught Oral Communication as an adjunct instructor for over 5 years.
Jen Dodrill Writes is born of a passion of mine – to write a novel! When I’m not working, you’ll find me writing, spending time with my family, or curled up on the couch reading and drinking a mug of dark roast coffee. (Don’t forget to check out my mug shop – JDMugs!)
